Mindful Eating For Balanced Energy

Aug 11, 2023

Admittedly, I have been the drive through mom, throwing food to the backseat, yelling “Try not to spill guys!” as I race through town shoveling food in my mouth trying to get to the next scheduled event.😱

πŸ˜” Yes, I am guilty, and those were the good ol' days because I didn’t know what I didn’t know.

😟I also didn’t know how bad it would be for my children’s digestion to tell them “Hurry up and eat your food, we’re going to be late!” You can still find me in fast food lines once in a while, but with resistance and mostly because there’s no other healthy options. There is no judgment here, as I know how easy it is to fall into the trap of hustle culture. I also can’t deny an opportunity to spend time with my two teenagers when their car full of friends wants to go to In N Out…If it means I get to hang out with them, I’ll take it. πŸ˜‹

However, my goal is to bring greater awareness to our energy in relation to what we eat and HOW we eat. This has been a focus for both my children and I lately especially since the younger generation has been bringing greater awareness and cool factor to healthier lifestyles. (Thank you Tik Tok influencers :))

I have become very conscious of the energy of everything that I consume, expose myself to, spend my resources and time on etc. Food is a key player to bring our awareness around if we are wanting to bring more balanced energy into our lives. I have been to various healers, health practitioners, acupuncturists…you name it. There is energy in what we put in our bodies. Food brings in properties of air, water, fire, earth. It connects our bodies to mother nature. Food is the vital source of energy for us to be able to live healthy, balanced lives. And when out of balance, it can wreak havoc on not only our physical bodies, but our moods, emotions, and energy.

Usually our culture focuses on what not to eat rather than what to eat. My Dr. and I were discussing this as part of my recent health protocol, and she suggested that I should focus on trying to eat more colors of the rainbow in a day, while reducing or eliminating the other foods that are causing inflammation in my body. When she was explaining this to me, it made me think of the 7 chakras and the energy readings I do with clients. 🌈 Depending on which chakra is blocked, we can eat certain colors of foods to help open the energy center and bring about more flow within the body.

For example, if your heart is blocked, eat more green colored food that brings in circulation such as green vegetables. But, if we make it our goal is to eat EACH color of the rainbow throughout the day,…we can influence each energy center, creating more balance and energy flow daily. 🀯No wonder why this is the Dr’s recommendation to reduce inflammation!

So often, we are living in a rushed life that we not only miss out on eating a variety of colorful foods, but we eat our foods very fast. I've also learned that chewing is such an important part of our digestive process. Taking conscious time to sit, breathe, and chew our food, allows us to regulate our nervous system which helps the digestive process making it easier for our bodies to absorb the essential nutrients. Hello “rest and digest?”  πŸ˜‰

Another food energy trick is to try to be aware of the amount of time your food has been on the shelf. I was watching an interview with Sadhguru and he said it perfectly; food from a box or package has very little inertia. What he was trying to say was, food has more energy the closer it is to having been picked from the Earth. The longer it has been processed and packaged, the less vital energy it holds. We need to make fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible!

Getting yourself into a rest and digest state before and after eating is so important for more balanced energy and a regulated nervous system. When I was little, my family always had a rule in the summer that we couldn’t swim for 30 minutes after we ate. This may be a good reason for that! (Even though I think it really was more for the adults to have a break than us.😜) If you tend to rush while you eat,  or are distracted while eating, try taking a minute to take some conscious deep breaths first, and allow your body to prepare for the meal, showing gratitude for your food and using the opportunity to slow down and nourish your body. Eating with a loved one creates even more harmony around your meal.

Here is a copy of a list of colorful foods to eat and their benefits! Thanks to my own Dr. Andrea!
